Director of Marketing

Located in Hopkinton, MA, Phosphorex is a rapidly growing Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) specializing in drug delivery solutions, including sustained release and nanomedicine-based formulations. Phosphorex partners with customers in the biomedical community to develop a variety of particle-based pharmaceutical products. Phosphorex is investing heavily in its formulation, analytical development services and GMP manufacturing capabilities and expects completion of its new state-of-the-art production suites in late 2023.


We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Marketing Director to join our team and help drive the future growth of the Phosphorex organization.

The primary objective of this role is to establish Phosphorex as one of the top CDMO’s in the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical and biotechnology markets through development and deployment of robust strategic and tactical marketing activities.  The role will also focus on ensuring Phosphorex is attracting and retaining a diverse customer base and securing a pipeline of clients and projects that lead to consistent, sustainable, and predictable growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes on the strategic planning process by assessing target industry / market data, gathering of market intelligence on competitors, customers and technology platforms, optimizing competitive positioning and creating compelling value propositions.
  • Responsible for all Marketing Communications to achieve the company’s short-term and long-term business development objectives, promoting Phosphorex to target customers in the bio/pharmaceutical market segments through advertising, on-line presence, conference attendance, and brand management.
  • Establish metrics and Key Performance Indicators to measure success of the strategic initiatives deployed and advise on course corrections as required.
  • Responsible for website management and optimization with a focus on lead generation of new clients within target markets (i.e. direct/SEO, SEM, advertising).
  • Responsible for optimizing all marketing channels, ensuring that the Phosphorex branding is consistent and follows corporate policies
  • Responsible for adapting and summarizing a wide range of technical content into key messages across multiple media platforms (web pages, e-blasts, advertisements, collateral, press releases, social media posts, infographics) to ensure an engaging user experience
  • Manage day-to-day marketing operations providing Phosphorex’s Business Development, Management, and technical staff with information, logistics and communications support to secure business.
  • Identify and manage all significant industry trade shows: key leads, follow-on messaging, tracking metrics to improve outcomes and return-on-investment
  • Effective management of the Marketing departments budget and expenditure to maximize market presence and brand equity creation.
  • Grow and develop the marketing department through hiring of key positions to ensure the function has the appropriate infrastructure to execute on all the associated tasks and activities
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in leading a Life-Science based Marketing department. A bachelor’s degree in a Life Science’s and formal Marketing qualifications / MBA preferred.
  • Demonstrated marketing skills include branding, market definition, deep customer insight, positioning, segmentation, message development, marketing mix, and competitive strategy.
  • Proven leadership track record including strategic thinking, driving innovation, teamwork and collaboration.
  • Experience in the Contract Manufacturing (CMO) and/or Contract Research (CRO) markets specifically working on pre-clinical / clinical development of biologics.
  • Experience in launching new services or products to the market, life cycle management and optimization.
  • Hands-on, action-oriented and client focused to drive results and support new business growth goals.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills

Supervisory Responsibilities

 All supervisors are expected to perform typical supervisory tasks, including but not limited to: Performance management, mentoring and coaching. Setting annual goals and objectives for the department and individuals that support Phosphorex’s strategy and mission. Organizing workflow and ensuring that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks. Monitoring employee productivity and providing constructive feedback.

Physical Demands 

Ability to lift 20Ibs such as exhibition material, demonstration equipment

Work Environment

A combination of remote and office-based work.  Travel up to 15% of the time to attend conferences, tradeshows and industry events and participate in training
