Phosphorex CEO Dr. Bin Wu Nominated for 2019 Barry M. Portnoy Immigrant Entrepreneur Awards

MALDEN, Mass, September 16, 2019 — The Immigrant Learning Center today announced the nominees for the 2019 Barry M. Portnoy Immigrant Entrepreneur Awards. Thirty-Eight outstanding business leaders who are Massachusetts residents from 26 countries and founded businesses in 24 local communities, from Hyannis to Springfield, were nominated for these prestigious awards in each of four categories: growth, neighborhood, high-tech and life science.

Dr. Bin Wu, Founder, President and CEO of Phosphorex, a leading nanotechnology and drug delivery company in Hopkinton, MA, is among this year’s Life Science Nominees.

Founded in 2005, Phosphorex partners with pharmaceutical and biotech companies from Massachusetts and other parts of the world to develop cutting-edge technologies and products to address many unmet medical needs. Specifically, Phosphorex leverages its experience and proprietary technologies to encapsulate drugs into microparticles or nanoparticles to enable sustained release, protection of medicines from degradation, as well as targeted drug delivery.  

As the founder, Dr. Wu led the company to become a worldwide leader in the development of drug delivery technologies and products. The company has helped over 60 life sciences companies, including 16 major pharma and biotech giants, develop their formulations and products, and has completed over 30 clinical and pre-clinical projects.

Phosphorex has built a team of experts in microparticles, nanoparticles and drug delivery. Many of the Phosphorex employees have advanced degrees such as Ph.D. and Master of Sciences and Engineering.

Dr. Wu led the Phosphorex team to develop enabling technologies to solve unmet needs in the drug delivery field. They also collaborated with world-class universities and research institutes. The collaborations led to the discovery of new methods of treating cancer. Dr. Wu has been invited to speak by several research institutes within the Department of Defense and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

As an entrepreneur, Dr. Wu created a platform to help others (pharma and biotech companies) develop their technologies and products in the field and accelerate the transfer of scientific concepts to clinical trials.

Winners will be announced at the Barry M.Portnoy Immigrant Entrepreneur Awards Benefit on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at the Royal Sonesta Boston in Cambridge, Mass.
